The Southern Miss Experience

Golden Eagle spirit is a 24/7 thing around here

Hattiesburg, also known as the “Hub City,” is Mississippi’s premier college city, with lots to see and do. Golden Eagle spirit is a 24/7 thing around here – not just 6 game days a year. And DYK? Southern Miss is the only Mississippi university with Mardi Gras holidays.

Explore Hattiesburg

Friday Nights at Spirit Park are pep rallies held before each home football game.

Painting of the Eagle Walk during Golden Eagle Welcome Weekend is a beloved tradition.

Connect with our Greek-letter organizations through Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Be Your Most Authentic Self

Golden Eagles come from all 50 states and from countries around the world, and Southern Miss is Mississippi’s most racially diverse university. You can plug in and find your place in one of more than 220 campus student organizations, ranging from academic honorary societies to volunteer organizations to Greek-letter fraternities and sororities (and everything in between!). We model civility for our students by embracing The Creed’s call to exhibit civil behavior, demonstrate responsible citizenry, and do our part to achieve a positive and secure living and learning environment for all.
